I’m an artist who employs street photography as a medium to document my encountered experience of Australian-ness. Gympie in Queensland is a favoured location to capture what I feel is the authentic nature of our national character.
I happened upon Reg reclining on the footpath in Mary Street, completely engrossed in something on his phone. His pose struck me as an ironic take on the much-used artistic trope of a reclining figure, (usually nude and female) coupled with a statement about contemporary device culture.
So, I excused myself and asked if he would mind if I took a photo of him exactly as he was. He was OK with that, so I did.
