Revolution modulation track 05 is part of an ongoing body of work that embraces mechanical devices operated by the artist to generate marks and gestures. In a world in which we embrace mechanical and digital translations, it seems appropriate to invite these things into a painting practice. At times the machines are central to the outcomes, accompanying the artist in performative presentations. At other times the paintings are presented standalone.
Whilst the mechanical nature of this process is eminent, it is not at the expense of the visceral experience of painting. The marks and gestures of this work are nuanced and the result of extensive experimentation and resolution. Oscillations, repetitions and lurid colours lean in to visuals that imply a digital translation of some kind.
