Artist Statement

This tree felled by the wind and rain seemed to me like a prizefighter struggling to push upright.

Having adapted to the new orientation, it has filled the cleared space with new growth reclaiming the prize of sunlight.

I was captivated by the colours and texture of the trunk and the struggle to regain dominance.

I felt that this silent battle was worth portraying.
