A deep insight into the extraordinary making of one of the Sunshine Coast’s favourite contemporary Australian artists, Judith Laws. With works drawn from private and public collections, this exhibition examines the depth and breadth of Judith’s art and follows her visual exploration from early works of people, places and discoveries while travelling with life partner Rex Backhaus-Smith and her love of impressionist abstraction and colour.
Laws has always painted from her imagination and as her making evolved, her works became less subject or medium-bound. She has experimented with different mediums, never settling on one – flowing through acrylic, watercolour, mixed media and collage, oil sticks, pastels and inks. Laws is passionate about painting and all aspects of artmaking. Her work invites the viewer to delve into and become one with the artwork.
