Pastel Era
Chloe Watego celebrates her culture through art | 28 May to 14 Jul | Maroochydore Library
Caloundra Regional Gallery in collaboration with Sunshine Coast Libraries proudly presents the next exhibition for the Maroochydore Library Artspace.
Chloe Watego is a South Sea Islander and Iman woman, based on Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi Country with a passion for sharing and celebrating her culture through art.
As a self-taught artist, Chloe uses painting for creative expression and to aid in healing as she continues to explore her family's heritage.
Born and raised on Yugambeh land, Chloe is of South Sea Islander descent and through her grandmother has ties to Torres Strait Island and the Bundjalung nation. Her grandfather, an Iman man, was removed from family due to the Stolen Generations, causing a hurtful disconnection to heritage and culture for him and the following generations of his family. Chloe's artworks are a means to shine a light on her family's enduring ties to the land while also illuminating the path forward for her children and future generations of her family.
Pastel Era is a collection of artworks Chloe has created while reflecting back on her connection to the Sunshine Coast. From summer holidays at her Pop's caravan as a child and teenager, to now living gratefully on these lands, Chloe brings together her love for the ocean, spirituality and connection to place.
I invite you to explore my artistic world and discover the captivating beauty of nature, the power of personal connections, and the shared experiences that shape our lives. – Chloe Watego
