Local public artwork recognised in national awards
Will Sunshine Coast artist, Russell Anderson, be able to say 'I did it' when he attends the Australian Street Art Awards next month as a finalist for his 6 metre, 'iDIDIT!' sculpture of a cartwheeling child.
iDIDIT!
Weighing in at nine tonnes and standing 6-metres-high, the unmissable sculpture ‘iDIDIT!’ of a cartwheeling child has been named a finalist in the Australia Street Art Awards.
The Australian Street Art Awards were the tourism industry’s first, and remain the largest, recognition program for excellence and innovation in art tourism.
The Awards showcase the ultimate Australian destinations where visitors can see epic, world-class street and public art that’s accessible and enjoyable all year round.
The artist and sculpture
The sculpture installed in the Birtinya health precinct in 2017 is made of 25mm plate weathering steel and is the vision, design and creation of local artist Russell Anderson, Art + Design.
Russell has a unique blend of skills, which allow him to take on both the design and fabrication of his projects, which he completes from his off-grid studio in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
From initial sketches, through to a virtual mini build using hi-tech software to construction, installation and commissioning, Russell’s attention to detail is evident in every stage of the process.
The result is a bold statement that elevates the fundamental importance of play in human development and promotes learning, health and family focus.

State and national winners will be revealed on 8 March 2024 by Australian Street Awards.
